C-lective Curator’s Cut:

In Galindo, David Ruth transforms a section of the Sierra Nevada mountain range into a luminous cast glass sculpture, preserving the landscape’s geological character while reimagining it through the language of light. Created from molds taken directly from the natural surface, the work captures the intricate textures and contours of the earth with remarkable precision, yet its transparent form feels anything but static. As light moves across and through the sculpture throughout the day, flashes of iridescence emerge and dissolve, creating an ever-changing experience that rewards repeated viewing. The result is at once sleek and contemporary and deeply rooted in the natural world, evoking glacial ice, flowing water, and ancient terrain. Central to Ruth’s practice is a reverence for the environment and an awareness of humanity’s relationship to it, and Galindo embodies that balance beautifully, inviting us to slow down, observe closely, and appreciate the fragile wonder of the landscapes that shape our lives.
